Total Area: 13,905 sqft
The Resort Group Building had to be versatile to accommodate a variety of business types. The floor plan maximizes the use of space and natural light in the offices by keeping the circulation centralized. The use of natural materials reflects the mountain setting of the building and typifies the architecture of the area.

Hotel Bristol and Mazzola’s Italian Restaurant

Hotel Bristol and Mazzola’s Italian Restaurant remodeled an existing building to fit the needs of a hotel and restaurant. The building was an inn before, but the existing rooms needed to be updated so that each room would have its own bathroom. The basement was changed completely to accommodate the restaurant and all of its equipment and so was the locker storage and lounge area on the main floor. The changes resulted in better circulation within the rooms and between common areas.

Total Area: 9,418 sqft

The Mountain Fire Station was a renovation and addition to the existing fire station. The fire station exterior was updated and a new bay for a fire truck was added. The challenge for this project was making sure that the new addition added visual interest instead of making the façade a blank mass. The new addition made the fire station three stories tall (because of the room required for the trucks) creating a tall mass. To minimize the visual impact, larger windows were added in the bunkroom to make the addition seem smaller because of the relative scale.

Total Area: 1,502 sqft

The Heart Center of the Rockies- Steamboat is a tenant finish project. It is located in the Medical Office Building (connected to the Yampa Valley Medical Center). The office space was previously a blood-infusion center. The reception area was reoriented to the main door and the break room was relocated to a more private area. The exam rooms were resized and the space was customized for a cardiology center. The space reused and re-laminated some of the existing walls, cabinets, and work stations. The reception counter was designed in conjunction with the interior designer for the project.

The Boggs Office Building blends the architecture of historic downtown Steamboat with the residential architecture of Oak Street. The brick detailing combined with the stone lintels and the form are all reminiscent of historic downtown Steamboat. The porch, and the scalloped and diamond shakes brings the scale and style of the architecture in line with the residential architecture of Oak Street. The building combines function with an architectural sensitivity to its surroundings.

The Colorado State Parks- Yampa River Headquarters had to function not only for the public, but also for the park rangers. The program required a display area, bathrooms, and offices. There are separate entrances to the different parts, to separate public and private. The public entrance is oriented to the parking lot with a gable roof and steps. The private entrance for the rangers is hidden in the back to be less accessible.

The scale and form of the new Minturn fire station minimizes its visual impact and reflects the scale and forms of the surrounding neighborhood. Its forms are simple but with the porch and openings it creates interest. The fire station not only has an area for the trucks, but it also includes a bunk room and ready room for the firemen.
