Historic preservation of an iconic Steamboat Springs barn

The challenge: Relocate an existing, neglected and structurally failing barn which represents Steamboat Springs’ historic ranching heritage. Mountain Architecture’s role began with documentation and analysis of the existing barn, followed by thoughtful preservation plans.

The barn was successfully relocated to a more suitable location, now serving as an interpretive display as well as an iconic entry symbol to the Steamboat Ski Resort.

“After surviving years of neglect and an uncertain future, it is exciting to finally see the work underway to move the historic Arnold Barn to its new home and to preserve it for future generations to appreciate,” Arianthe Stettner, a member of Save Arnold Barn, said in a news release.
